Yerevan to host IPA CIS Committee Session

On November 3 the session of the Permanent Commission on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly was held.

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Samvel Balasanyan delivered a welcoming speech. He highly appreciated the legislative activity of the Assembly with regard to approximating and improving the legal documents of the CIS member countries, expressing hope that the works of this session of the Commission will be efficient and fruitful in the light of adopting model laws and direct contacts with the relevant spheres.

The Commission Chairman Evgeniy Tarlo thanked for the warm reception and for creating excellent working environment. He has said that a dozen of important model drafts and organizational items are included in the agenda of the commission session, which can be a guideline for elaboration, improvement of the legislation of cultural field of the CIS member countries, their correspondence, as well as with regard to the activation of the cultural relations.

The second item of the agenda referred to the election of the Commission Chairman. By the proposal of the Deputy Chairman of the Commission Eduard Sharmazanov the members of the commission unanimously reelected Commission Chairman- Evgeniy Tarlo.

Thereafter the Commission touched upon the model drafts included in the agenda. The model bills of “Information Code,” “On Preservation of Archaeological Heritage,” “On Technopark,” “On Preservation of Non-Material Values, Artistic and folk works of art,” “On intellectual property,” “On Amending the Code on Library Work,” which were designed for the CIS member countries, were discussed.

The Commission also discussed a number of organizational issues, which referred to the preparation of celebration dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the well-known scientist L. N. Gumilyov, the creation of honorary badges in the sphere of culture, art, information, tourism and sport, the organization of the international conference dedicated to the history of the State Duma of Russia, international musical events in Olympic cities, and the creation of the textbook-manual on the CIS History.

Issues pertaining to the upcoming works to be done in the Commission were also discussed.
