Unsolicited Services of Illegal Entities
The World intellectual property Organization (WIPO) notifies on companies offering fraudulent IP protection, promotional or advertising services to inventors, designers and businesses. The unspecified bodies have in particular targeted international Patent applications filed under WIPO’s Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and users of WIPO’s Madrid System for the International Registration of trademarks.
Melisbek & Partners advises to treat with caution letters received from unfamiliar organizations, especially letters requesting payment for unsolicited services. In cases where the credibility of correspondence is questionable, it would be prudent to consult Patent Attorney or contact the National intellectual property Office.
Information and collection of false invoices can be found on WIPO webpage at: http://www.WIPO.int/pct/en/warning/pct_warning.htm
