Meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council of Copyright Protection at the State Chancellery

On June 2 the first meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council of copyright Protection was held at the State Chancellery under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Georgia. Among the members of the Council and invited guests were Mr. Phillip Dimitrov, Ambassador of the EU Delegation to Georgia, and Mr. George Welton, Executive Director of US Chamber of Commerce.

The strategy of the Interagency Coordination Council of copyright Protection and the action plan of its implementation were discussed at the meeting.

Within the framework of the negotiations for the integration of Georgia into the European Union a necessary component is effective protection of intellectual property. Based on the Law and Regulations, the National intellectual property Center is authorized to determine the state policy in the intellectual property protection, Sakpatenti has worked out an action plan for 2011-2013 for combating piracy serving to contribute to the effective protection of copyright.

The action plan comprises long-term goals and effective ways of solution of problems on the basis of coordinated efforts of authors’ associations, private persons/business circles and government bodies through establishing a multi-player dialogue and unified, harmonized and enforceable copyright protection policy in the country.
