September 7-9, 2011 in Minsk, the Republic of Belarus the 20th joint meeting of the Interstate Council on the Protection of industrial property and Joint Working Commission of the member-states of the Agreement on Cooperation to Suppress Violations in the Field of intellectual property took place.
Representatives of the Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belorussia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and World intellectual property Organization (WIPO), Eurasian Patent Office (EAPO), and European Patent Office (EPO) participated in the meeting. Representative of the Georgia took part in the meeting as an observer.
More than a dozen questions was considered at the agenda, including the following:
• Creation of a new Interstate Council on the intellectual property (ICIP) instead of Interstate Council on the Protection of industrial property;
• Creation of a constantly operating Commission in the frames of the Council;
• Elections of the Chairman and the Co-chairmen of the Council;
• On the implementation of the internal procedures of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Legal Protection of intellectual property;
• About giving the status of the base organization CIS member-states on training, retraining and further training in the field of intellectual property to the Institute of intellectual property of the National University “Odessa National Academy of Law” and other issues.
The activities of the Interstate Council on the Protection of industrial property is crucial for coordination of joint activities of CIS member-states to develop and improve the mechanisms for legal protection of intellectual property, development of scientific and technical, trade, economic and socio-cultural cooperation and implementation of joint actions to prevent, detect and suppress intellectual property violations.
