The World intellectual property Organization (WIPO) is working to develop tools to adapt the laws on copyright protection law and specific features of copyright ethics.
Ilya Gribkov, representative of WIPO program DCEA (Division for Certain Countries in Europe and Asia), says that these documents reflect accurately the situation in the countries of the region and assess the level of the necessity to bring the national standards to the conformity to international standards.
“In the coming months it will be presented a component of a legal instrument on the specifics of ethics of copyright: “Law enforcement in the area of copyright, especially in the digital online environment,” Gribkov emphasized.
He points out that one of the most important steps is to create a national brand to serve for improvement of the country’s image.
“Tool “Strengthening the role of small and medium-sized innovative enterprises” was developed especially for the CIS countries. It aims to assess the effectiveness and making recommendations to the CIS states and contains detailed analysis and plan on engagement of CIS small and medium-sized enterprises in the development of the innovation process. In parallel, we’re developing the economic aspects of intellectual property rights and education in this area. In this connection there appeared an idea of creating a web-portal for teachers of this region, at which employees of institutes will be able to present their own programs and communicate between one another,” Gribkov said.
He also informed that in the prospect it is planned to create a glossary of intellectual property terms to be edited by professionals in this field.
“We’re also developing tools on traditional knowledge and on digitization of cultural heritage sites. These tools are to be submitted by early 2012,” the WIPO expert told of plans.
Gribkov stressed that all the above-listed tools were applicable in systems of copyright protection in countries with economies in transition.
