On May 24, 2011 The President of the Russian Federation signed the Order On the Federal Service for intellectual property. In fact, this newly established authority will take some of the responsibilities of the Federal Service for intellectual property, patents and trademarks (Rospatent, the Russian PTO) and of the Federal Agency for the Legal Protection of Military, Special and Dual Purpose intellectual property (FAPRID). Its responsibilities will include monitoring and supervision in the sphere of legal protection and use of intellectual property of civil, military, special and dual purpose. The new Service will be under supervision of the Government of the Russian Federation.
Prior to this, on April 25, 2011, Dmitry Medvedev proposed to set up a specialized intellectual property court (is going to be established under the bill introduced in 2010) as part of the Skolkovo innovation center, a modern technology complex to be built in the village of Skolkovo, near Moscow.
